Cantilan, Surigao del sur

Cantilan

Cantilan is a 4th class municipality in the province of Surigao del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 26,553 people in 5,378 households.
Cantilan is considered the "Cradle of Towns" in Surigao del Sur. It originally encompassed the whole area of Carcanmadcarlan or the present towns of Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Carmen and Lanuza. This town was established by the Spaniards in the early 1700s in the settlement of "Daang Lungsod" with the construction of the "Cota" better known as Baluarte de Señor San Miguel located across the river in the modern Cantilan.
On December 10, 1918, Executive Order No. 52 of American Governor General Francis Burton Harrison was issued that divided Cantilan into three parts. Cantilan became part of the new province of Surigao del Sur in 1960.
Cantilan is celebrating its town fiesta every August 15. Highlighting to the said event is the Sirong Festival. Sirong Festival is a mardi-gras parade participated by different contingents from other towns. A cash price and a trophy awaits to the winner of the street dancing competition and the final showdown.

I've taken this pics using camera phone, after I had finished working for client's Tandag city office I went to Cantilan for a similar task, the town was celebrating annual festivities that's why  its hard for them to book me on a hotel.  I ended up sleeping in their office for 2 nights and the manager had to treat me on this beach to cover up their failure to booked me on a hotel i guess.. aside from the overflowing beer supply every night.. hahaha..
